SDNv4 in brief

SDN is a secured and virtuel network for data communication in the Danish healthcare sector both public and private parties.

• SDN makes it possible for the connected parties to both exhibit their own services and make agreements on network access to other’ services.
• SDN consists of a network infrastructure and a number of support systems, including SDN’s management system, the Agreement System.
• The transmissions in SDN are not saved and no backup is taken.

Connection to SDN and SD-WAN

Connection to SDN is established through SD-WAN-technology, where SDN, unless specified otherwise, is terminated in a SDN SD-WAN box, which is installed locally at the connected party.

Selection of SD-WAN box and need for redundant setup is decided in the initial dialogue with MedCom and based on the connected party’s desire to use SDN – including:

• What will the connection be used for – and does the connected party expect to offer services, or does the connected party expect to only have to access services from others
• How important is the availability of the connection and any exhibited services on SDN

The cost for purchase, configuration as well as hardware and software-support to the SDN SD-WAN box is covered by MedCom.

The technical ressources and network competence to the local installation, local operating environment for SDN SD-WAN box as well as the network connection to SDN would cf. the connection agreement for SDN be the connected party’ responsibility and cost.

The connnection to SDN can also be established through a virtual firewall.

The Agreement System

The connection to SDN does not in itself provide access to data. Network access to data is regulated technical and organizationally in the Agreement System in which the connected parties themselves administer and manage services, clients, agreements and users.

SDN thus only ensures the data transmission, while it is the connected parties who enter into agreements on access to services themselves via the agreement system.

The Agreement System:

• Is a catalog of connected organizations and the services they provide
• Handles creation of agreements for services
• Documents which organisations use these services
• Forms and provisions centrally configured Access Control Lists (ACL) in accordance with the segmentation in the concluding agreements

The SDN agreement system consists of different sections:

• AftaleDocs (in Danish): Here you will find user manuals, general information about the agreement system and documentation
• AftalePortal (in Danish): Is used to create and update services, clients and agreements

Please note that both access to AftalePortal and AftaleDocs require that you have access to SDN.
